11 Mario Myths That Turned Out To Be True


Here are a few Mario myths that turned out the be true:


1. When developing Luigi for the arcade game Mario Bros., there were memory limitations on the game.  The creator duplicated Mario and changed the color to the same color as the shellcreeper.

2. There are a possible of 256 hidden, glitchy levels that can be accessed on Super Mario Bros by switching it out with the Tennis cartridge while the game is still running.

3. The cloud graphic and the bush graphic are the same in Super Mario Bros.

4. Mario had many names before including "Jumpman," "Mr. Video," and "Ossan," which translate to "middle aged man."

5. The manual for Super Mario Bros states that when the Koopas invaded the Mushroom Kingdom they transformed the citizens into bricks.  So Mario may have been smashing people....

7. Wario and Waluigi get their names from the Japanese word warui (悪い), which translates to “bad.” Their names are meant to be portmanteaus of “Bad Mario” and “Bad Luigi.”

8. Mama from the Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening and Wart from Super Mario Bros 2 appear to be the same character.

In the Japanese version of Super Mario Bros. 2, Wart is actually called Mamu. Both of the games are revealed to have been dreams when the player beats them, which may be the connection.

9. Yoshi was supposed to be featured in the NES version of Super Mario Bros, but technical restrictions didn't allow him to be featured until Super Mario World was released years later.
